What is the Right Product to Sell?

  • Posted on April 20, 2012 at 9:30 am

My first product

Have you heard the phrase “write what you know?” Well, you should also sell what you know. You may already have a product in mind that you can either purchase and resell or develop yourself. Alternatively, you may be searching for that perfect idea. If you are still searching, think about your job and your hobbies. What product can you sell or develop to make you job or hobby easier or more fun? Do you struggle with a problem in your daily life that you can solve with a new gadget?

You should also remember that your business can evolve. If you pick the wrong product to sell the first time, try something else. I did. My first business idea was to sell dried and preserved flower arrangements online. I learned how to make beautiful arrangements; HOWEVER; they were very hard to store and ship. They did not fit my lifestyle at all. Therefore, I changed directions and started Mini Me Geology (www.MiniMeGeology.com) which is related to my field. If you look at the Mini Me Geology website, you will see several lines of rock and mineral kits and eBooks. I designed all of the rock and mineral kits and wrote all of the eBooks and information sheets for the business. It has been fun and I always have a list of new products to develop and new books to write. This is the type of synergy you will find when you choose a product that you know and enjoy. You can read more about choosing a business that fits your personality and your lifestyle.

Hi! Thank you for taking some of your valuable time to visit my website. Several years ago, I started a company making rock and mineral kits. Several friends told me that they could never develop a product because they have no clue where to start. If you are thinking the same thing, you will find that developing your own product is not as daunting as you initially believe. You simply need a plan to execute. That is why I wrote my book, Launch it Quick.

Launch it Quick is a short, fun read with workbook style pages to help you put into action the topics that we discuss. I believe in leaning about starting a business when you begin, but I also believe that you can spend d too much time reading and not enough time taking action. This book will help you do both. I have taken the topics that I had the hardest time learning about and put all of the answers in this book. I also give you a bunch of resources to help you get started on your quest for business success. The book will be out in a few short weeks, so stayed tuned for its own launch!

Are You Ready to Start Your Business?

Are you ready to start your business today?

Many people have a great business idea or hope to design that perfect product to sell. If you are still undecided if you are ready to take the plunge, ask yourself these questions:

  1. Can I stay up late and give up some sleep?
  2. Can I make myself work when I do not feel well?
  3. Can I make myself work when I do not want to and would rather be watching television?
  4. Am I willing to take risks, both personally and financially?

If you answered “No” to any of these questions, then you are not ready to make the decision to forge ahead with your product venture. BUT, if you answered “YES” don’t let anything stop you!

Your first step is to determine what type of business you want to start. Do you have some great ideas?  Service? Product? What is your passion?
